Plastic is Not the Only Problem

A.N: Hello, this is a blog post I made a while back when I made my first website about saving the sea life. I thought I could share my post once again! Have a wonderful day <3

When you think about an ocean you imagine clean, blue-tinted, beautiful water. Unfortunately, most of the time it is not like how we imagine. Our ocean is filled with plastic and garbage. Not only does this plastic and garbage make our ocean ugly but also harms the marine animals that live there. Whales and dolphins are brought up to shore dead, filled with plastic in them. These marine animals help keep our ocean alive, but with all this plastic, our ocean is at risk.

When dolphins and whales come up to the surface to breathe, they fertilize tiny marine plants in the ocean called phytoplankton, which every year absorb four times the amount of carbon dioxide that the Amazon rainforest does. and makes up 85% of the oxygen we breathe. So our world is not only at risk with our oceans but also our lives. If we help protect these animals that mean we are protecting ourselves and our planet. Today, the equivalent of a garbage truck of plastic is dumped in the sea every single minute of the day. This plastic breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces also known as microplastics, which now outnumbers the stars in the milky way by at least 500 times the amount.

Japan has confirmed it will resume commercial whale hunting and is withdrawing from the international whaling commission. The Japanese want to resume whale hunting. Dolphins and whales are dying from plastic, but now on purpose. There has been a ban on whale hunting since 1996 and now most countries have been able to operate this without being caught for years. One place in the south of Japan, Taiji can still be seen operating from the coast. Each year 700 dolphins and whales are gathered up to be killed. This is a bigger deal than plastic. But why kill Dolphins and Whales?
